Update on Poken

Vandaag ontving ik, naar aanleiding van een aantal vragen, een mail van Stéphan Doutriaux van Poken. Leuk waar ze mee bezig zijn.

Dear Corné,

Thanks for your email, it’s always a pleasure to receive positive feedback.

We’re still in “Beta” currently which means there is a lot happening.. almost on a weekly basis. Our goal is for your “poken card” to be a central repository of all methods of communicating with you- much like an old-style paper business card was, until the advent of social networking. It used to be all your contact info was on a paper business card- now it’s just not practical to put links to every single one of your networks or blogs on a paper card. However, we achieve good usability if we can just click on an icon that takes us to where that aspect of your profile resides.

Currently we’ve made it real easy to connect on Facebook, LinkedIn, AIM, Skype, MSN, Usgang which are the main networks here in Switzerland but we’re really busy adding many many others. Very soon each user will be able to add any of his own networks too. We’ve been getting good traction from all over the globe, so we’re building an API so any person or network can add themselves to Poken, rather than needing our intervention every time.

We’re unfortunately clear out of poken right now but we’re getting a big shipment on Friday. Early next week our online app will be available to purchase pokens online, so I would suggest that’s the best way to go about getting some at the moment. You’ll also discover some exciting new concept.. that we hope will stimulate mass adoption…

Regarding future expansion of our product lineup… i can’t say much… but I’m sure you can imagine where we’re going….
